After the holidays, a home can feel barren when all of the festive decorations are put away. Pair that with less sunlight, which can make you feel a little down. But you can create a comfortable, cozy atmosphere at home this winter with just a few simple steps. From adding soft furnishings to filling your space with candlelight and snuggly soft throws and pillows, there are plenty of easy ways to make your home feel warm and inviting all winter long.

Display White Flowers

It may sound odd to think of adding only white flowers for decorating during the middle of winter. But look at this Faux Orchid…

Isn’t that beautiful? White flowers, whether real or artificial, are an excellent addition to your home during winter. You will have an instant hit accent piece by placing white blooms in simple vases or vessels around your home. And you could even add a wreath of all white flowers to act as a piece of art on a bare wall or, of course, on your front door.

Let The Light Shine In

Make use of the sun’s natural warmth in winter by opening your curtains during the day. Keeping windows uncovered and allowing natural sunlight to filter into your home will help keep it warm, even on chillier days. You can also take advantage of the sun’s heat by positioning furniture near windows – this will absorb more heat, making more of an impact when it counts most.

But it isn’t just for the warmth factor. The shorter days of winter can really affect you emotionally. So don’t keep the curtains and shades closed. Open them up and let the sunshine in!

Add Some Candles

There is something so soothing about candlelight. The soft glow that the flame creates and how even a small flame can create such an ambiance. Burning candles is a great way to create a cozy atmosphere in your home.

Candles come in all shapes and sizes, so you can find the perfect ones to fit your unique style. And if it makes you nervous to burn real candles, you can always opt for flameless candles. Like the ones in this photo. Whether you use traditional candles or flameless ones, they will make any environment feel more inviting as well as cozy.

Create Cozy with Snuggly Soft Finishes

Give your home a cozy winter makeover by adding extra fluffy or faux fur throw pillows. I mean, nothing says cozy more than pillows and throws. And if you are looking for an affordable way to spruce up your throw pillows, consider buying pillow covers instead of a new set of pillows. The covers can be changed out for the season, and a set of pillow covers will cost much less than a new set of throw pillows.

Also, consider adding plush rugs and soft fabrics for added warmth. Faux fur throws in neutral colors will add texture and create an inviting atmosphere. If you’re feeling particularly ambitious, invest in statement pieces like a velvet-accented sofa, shag rug, or sheepskin pouf.

These can add a great visual appeal to the room as well as provide more insulation against the cold weather.

Keep Colors Neutral

With the dreary colors of winter, even our pine trees seem to be drab. And I want my home to feel ultra cozy right when I walk in. As if my home was saying ‘welcome home‘ every time I enter the front door. And by adding textured, neutral colored elements, I feel that I am able to achieve this look. The texture adds a little something extra to the overall picture.

Try adding neutral colored vases or lamps to unify the room’s overall look. And if new lamps or accent pieces aren’t within your budget, consider doing some DIY craft projects. If you have an old vase that you aren’t using, add some texture using chalk paint and lightweight spackle to get an instant decor item that will look great for the winter.

Add in Some Greenery

While it’s still a little too early for the lovely colors of spring flowers, it is the perfect time to add some green to your home. And if you have the space, you could even add a Faux Tree!

Depending on your preference, you can add living plants or artificial ones. Personally, for me, I am very happy with artificial plants. We do have some living ones as well. But for the short winter season, I add faux arrangements as well as stems that I will replace with spring colors shortly.

And you can find lots of deals after Christmas on greenery. Just removes any reminders of Christmas, and you will have instant decor! The green will add a pop of color while making it feel cozy at the same time. Winter is a great time to experiment and be creative with your decorating choices – so go for it! And have fun with your cozy home decorating.
