I have to tell you that I came up with this literally in a few minutes. I was making my bedroom over for spring. And I wanted to have artwork that was very clean and minimal. Then it hit me, I could make something to hang up. I mean I have tons of stuff in my craft room that I need to use, right? Right! So I found a few things and got busy.
What You Need To DIY A Piece of Art
Ok, I have shown you my craft room. It’s a disaster! Or, I should say it’s a work in progress. I am trying to use up some of the supplies I have in order to make this mess less. So I decided to create a 30-Day crafting challenge to help me get more organized. And so far, it’s working. Even if it doesn’t look like it in this photo! And there are even some projects in this photo for upcoming days in the 30-Day Crafting Challenge! Can you spot them? Probably not, so I will give you a hint, there are 2!
But I digress…
Getting back to the craft at hand, a piece of art to hang in my bedroom. To make this, I gathered a few things:
- Tumbling Tower Blocks
- Wood Glue
- A Dollar Tree 16 x 20 canvas
- Some floral stems
- Gesso
- White Chalk Paint
- White Spray Paint
- Glue Sticks and my Glue Gun
And that’s it! I had all of this stuff already, so putting everything together would be easy. I started by creating a frame out of tumbling tower blocks. Ok, I already had this done for another project that I had made but ended up tearing it apart.
Arrange The Florals
Next, I took a few floral stems and arranged them onto the Dollar Tree Canvas. Now, I need to tell you this canvas came in a pack of 2. And I found it in the Dollar Plus section of the store. Then I put my DIY tumbling tower block frame onto the canvas and arranged the floral stems. And then, I secured them in place with my glue gun.
Securing the Outer Frame
Next, I took the tumbling tower block frame and, using my glue gun, and a little E6000, secured it to the canvas. The E6000 is great because you can move the frame a bit to get it centered on the canvas.
Once the frame was secure and the florals were glued down, all that was left to do was paint everything white.
White is a Mininmalist’s Friend
Then I used the gesso and painted EVERYTHING white. And I mean everything! The canvas, the frame, and the flowers. Everything was white.
And once the paint was dry, I took my artwork out into the garage and gave it a few coats of satin white spray paint. Looking at it now, I wish I would have used spray chalk paint. I think that would make this look even better. But I’m happy with how it turned out.
Talk about an easy project! And as always, if you are a visual learner, here is the video of the project:

I am beyond happy with how this craft looks. And what’s even better is my husband says it’s not too ‘foo-foo’. I take that as a compliment for sure! I mean, look at it. Isn’t it stunning?
Who would have thought to glue floral stems to a canvas and paint them? Me! I thought of it! And I am so glad that I did!
