There is just something that draws me to Pottery Barn during the holiday season. They have so many gorgeous decor pieces to add to my decorating. But the price tag associated with their products isn’t something I can easily overlook. This leads me to my first Pottery Barn Christmas DIY dupe of the season!
Santa and Reindeer Wall Art
I think I first saw these Christmas art pieces a year or so ago. And I have been trying to figure out how to dupe them for almost as long. Because even though they are gorgeous, they are also very expensive and not within my budget. Even when they are on clearance.
I’m also not a fan of the natural color of the frame. So I decided to see if I could make something similar.
Pottery Barn Christmas Dupe DIY
To start, I had to find the Santa and the reindeer figures. At first, I thought about using ornaments, but in the end, I decided to see if I could find some silicone molds as well as resin to make the pieces.
I chose the Alumilite Slow Set Casting Resin for the molds. But I think any type of resin will work. This is just what I had. But it worked perfectly for my project. A little bit goes a long way with resin. You just mix equal parts of bottles A and B
And then, pour the mixture into the silicone mold.
For my molds, I shopped on Amazon and found the reindeer head silicone mold.
And then I searched for the Santa mold. The most affordable option was at Temu. And the mold is of really good quality. If you are nervous about shopping at Temu, don’t worry. They are a legitimate company, and they have some great products at affordable prices.
Painting the Resin Figures
The resin takes about an hour to dry, but then all you have to do is paint it. I chose white chalk paint because I like that look, and I can use the same paint on the framed backgrounds.
The resin took 2 coats of the chalk paint. And while the second coat was still wet, I sprinkled on some iridescent glitter to give it a little holiday sparkle.
Painting the Blank Frames
Finding the wood background for the resin was a little more challenging.
At first, I was going to use these signs from Dollar Tree, that I added some scrapbook paper to the back. And while I liked it, it wasn’t the look I was going for.
So I went back to Temu and found these wood-blank signs. They were $3 apiece. But I found a 6-pack of them on Amazon for $12. They are marketed as Unfinished Wood Canvas Boards. You can get them in many different sizes too.
And I painted the entire wood piece with the same white chalk paint. It took 2 coats of paint to get a solid white surface.
Attaching the Resin
Once the wood frames had dried, all that was left to do was to attach my Santa and reindeer.
I used Super Glue brand wood glue that I bought at Dollar Tree. I love this glue, and secured the resin to the painted frame.

And that’s it! Look at how pretty these turned out! They may be a little different and smaller than the Pottery Barn version, but I love them!

And as always, if you are a more visual learner, I have a video showing you the entire process.
