Ok, so I don’t need 51 million project ideas, but I did find (and make) 3 of the crafts that spoke to me. And I had so much fun making these crafts. I thought you might like to make them for yourself! Home Sweet Home Sign
First, I went to Cricut Design Space and searched through the different designs that were available. This is the file that I used:
Home Sweet Home ( M411FAD14), Or you can click here. This link should take you to the image.
Next, I prepped a Dollar Tree sign that I like to use as a blank. This sized sign is perfect for recreating something personalized for your project, and it’s an affordable option for crafting! I painted the sign using Folk Art Chalk Paint in Nautical and added a little light gray paint to give it some dimension. And while that was drying, I created a stencil with the Home Sweet Home image that I picked.
This is the Mod-Podge on the drying ‘blank’ that I created. Don’t worry, it will dry clear!
How To Slice In Design Space
Which leads me to another topic entirely. How to slice a design in Design Space. Have you struggled with this? I know I have! So much so that I actually created a quick video showing how to slice. But it is fairly simple to do once you have done it a few (hundred) times.
If you find yourself trying to slice (take a certain area of the design away from the original image) and the slice button won’t work, make sure you are only trying to slice 2 layers. If there are more than 2 layers, you won’t be able to slice. For my example, I have 3 layers. The first is the original image – the home sweet home and the wreath are 2 layers. So first I welded the original image. And next, I added a square shape and moved that layer to the back. I changed the color to blue so I would be able to see the lettering easier. Once I had the original lettering spaced where I wanted it to be, I selected the entire project, which was now 2 layers, and then hit the slice button. Give Design Space a moment to perform the action, and then you will be able to separate the layers and it will look something like this when you are successful:
Then using stencil material, I cut out my finished image, weeded it, and placed it onto transfer tape. And then, I added a layer of Mod-Podge to the blank that I had created. If you are going to be making blanks like this for projects, before working with the project, you need to give it a sealer top coat, and Mod-Podge works great for this. Otherwise when you go to remove the transfer tape, and even stencil, if the painted layer isn’t sealed, it will peel off the paint!

And as soon as the sealer had dried, I put the stencil onto the blank. Then using white chalk paint and a foam brush, I applied 2 layers of light paint to the surface. And while it was still tacky wet, meaning not completely dry, I removed the stencil, and this is the end result:
This was a super fun project to do. And the navy blue color of the sign really makes it fit in with my next project. Who knew that making Cricut wall decor could be so much fun – and so easy!

I saw this project and fell in LOVE! I have always wanted to make something like this because I love Colorado. We get all four seasons, although sometimes some of those seasons are very short. And I thought this would look beautiful hanging on the wall. So I made it!
First, I found an image of our state in Design Space. They actually have all the states. You may just have to remove words if they are in the image. That’s what I did. And I also added a heart that I needed to cut out.
Then I found some beautiful white and gold foil cardstock and cut out the image with my Cricut Maker. And I thought I had red glitter vinyl, but I couldn’t find it. So I improvised and used red glitter HTV. I just had to secure it in place with some craft glue since it didn’t have a sticky backing.
Easy Cricut Home Decor
Next, I added a dark navy blue cardstock behind the foiled paper. This is the easy part. I used my trimming tool and added the heart to the area in Colorado where we live. Then I found an 11″x14″ frame on clearance at Hobby Lobby, spray painted it white, and that’s that!
I love how this custom-framed piece of art that I created looks hanging on our wall.
If the frame had been white already, this project would have taken me about 15 minutes to create. But adding the paint wasn’t a big deal. And I even sanded down the raised areas to make it look a little distressed.
DIY Round Wooden Door Hanger
It is so much fun crafting wreaths. But I decided to try something a little different for our front door by making a wooden round door hanger to welcome guests to our home. The best thing about this project is how simple it is to make!
I started with another ‘blank’, AKA a hang-up wood round from Hobby Lobby, when their fall decor items were 90% off. Next, I stained the back of this round. Once the paint was completely dry, I taped off a section on the lower 3rd of the round and painted it with black chalk paint. And once I was finished with the painting, I removed the tape. (While the paint was still tacky wet)
While I was waiting for the sealer coat to dry, I went back to Design Space and started a new project.
I typed out Welcome and then went through the fonts to find the perfect cursive font for my Welcome. I decided to use a font that I had previously added to my system. It’s called Effort. And I found it on DaFont.Com. It’s free! And Dafont has thousands of fonts that you can download for free. I like free. The cool thing about adding fonts to your computer is once the font is in your system, Cricut will import that font into Design Space. How cool is that?
Next, I used permanent white vinyl and cut it out, and then attached it to the round.
All that was left to do was add a bow, some flower and greenery stems, and wa-la! My door hanger was almost complete! And one more thing I did was add a hanger on the back of the round, making it easier to hang up my new welcome sign.
Cricut Crafting
I had no idea of how to harness the power of my Cricut Maker, that is until I started searching for craft ideas. I just had to get a little specific with my searches. For example, if you type Cricut into a search engine, you will get millions of results. But many of them won’t be related to home decor, Cricut wall decor, etc. No, get a little more clear with your search, and then you will truly harness the power of a search engine!
Depending on how crafty and thrifty you are with your time, you may be able to get all 3 of these projects done in a weekend. The projects are fairly simple, and all 3 of them are affordable. So if you want some instant decor – here you go!
